Oh, to catch a bug or duck!

Fall is in the air! The group of Acorns & Oaks met at Stoneridge Farm on this cool, overcast morning. The hens were hungry this morning so we fed them and also collected four eggs. What sound does a hen make? I wonder what Coyote is going to make with the eggs?

We spent our time looking for bugs along the trail. On a day like today, sometimes you have to think like a bug. Where would a bug be hiding on a day like today? Other times you just have to stop, watch and notice. Did you notice any bugs along the trail today? Slugs and snails and lady beetles?

At Crayfish Catch, we explored the water with nets, ladles, sieves and buckets. What tools did you like using to catch critters in the water? There were crayfish, fish and water striders in our buckets. Is that everything we caught? Did you catch a duck?

We could tell that the little Acorns were being very careful today. Walking with their parents slowly and being gentle with every little living thing, including rescuing the water strider that escaped from the bin.

Our story today was "Heads and Tails Insects" by John Canty. Which bugs were you able to guess? How many butterflies did we count?

It was also good to visit with the horses while we were at Pine Haven. Why do you think that the horse was wearing a mask? Hint: It might have to do with bugs.

Thank you to our song helpers today! Happy Trails! Dragonfly & Chickadee:)
