Great to see everyone back at Harrington! The snow is still here in all it’s glory. It's thick, dense and deep and wet. Did you find it difficult to walk around? The snow was certainly easy to pack together for our activities.

We started our day in the Hall and brainstormed fun games to play in the snow for our last day of the winter session next week. After our morning chat with friends and our affirmation, we got ourselves bundled to make mounds of snow for our snow snake track. Can’t wait to see how they move on the path we created. Thanks to our resident snowball maker Water Strider who moved a giant snowball over to mark the end of the snow snake track. Water Strider showed a kind heart and made sure we knew his friends were also responsible for helping with the rolling. How is your snow fort coming along? Do you think all the snow will be there next week?
We were invited to submit a poem for display around St Marys in April which is also National Poetry Month. During morning snack, we talked about the characteristics of a poem. The Turtles thought a poem could be a story, a book, a thought or uses rhymes and imagination. Using descriptive words and pictures of animals, we began to create little phrases of poetry, helping each other with possible actions to go with them. Do you remember the sentence you came up with or a connection from hearing someone else's words?

After cleaning up, we headed outside to continue on our forts and our snow creations. What did you enjoy doing during this Wander Time? In the library, Grey Squirrel read "Goose Moon", a book about looking for signs of spring. It got us thinking about what to look for but agreed that we are still loving winter! Grey Squirrel was excited for spring and was surprised by our response!
After our yummy lunch, we headed onto the trail to feed some of our animal friends. Spring might be coming soon but food is still tricky to find. Using heart-shaped cardboard cut outs, we pressed them on the snow and filled the open area of the heart with seeds. Do you think the seeds will be gone next week? What animals do you think will eat the seeds?
Off to Sunrise Hill for some tobogganing! Did you notice the mud and puddles on the side of the road? Along the way, Dragonfly pointed out a cocoon poking out of the snow and some galls among the dead plants. Do you remember what a gall is? How many did you count? Did you notice a hole in the gall? What animal do you think ate the larvae out of it? Thank goodness there is still something for our nature friends to nibble on.
After searching for sources of food for animals and creating some ourselves, we finished the day with our journals, thinking of nature ideas for our poems. Illustrations and good copies next week!
After our time as poets, we got to work on decorating our snow snakes.
Thanks to Mrs. Beaver from the Herons for leaving us some galls and some resources to investigate and explore during our circle time. The yummy piece of licorice we got to munch on while we listened was a sweet end to an awesome day! Until we meet again!
