It Only Gets Brighter From Here

The longest night of the year is coming soon. What tale was told that reminds us the new sun will bring spring again? Let's celebrate Winter Solstice!

You just have to fit in EVERYTHING that you love to do on the farm on your final day of fall session. Starting with hayloft bale jumping, horse brushing and stall art, volunteer celebration art and finally HORSE  RECESS.!!!

Meet you there! Off to the Old Bridge and into some heavy lifting for our winter shelter. Just like the pioneers we hauled boughs and trimmed branches. What jobs did you do at the construction site? Thanks to Daisy and Chickadee for making trips back for sleds and supplies. It was heavy pulling through the snow but we got a lot of building material ready to finish when we come back. Cardinal even volunteered to head off to get more wood and the warm water 'bullet'. What a team!

Thanks to  Acorn for using his firing making skills to get a fire going for us. Did you notice what type of fire he laid? Thanks to Hawk for supervising the s’mores making and Chickadee and friends for whittling some sticks for us! Most of the kids were able to achieve a nice golden toast on their marshmallows.

At Pine Haven, we enjoyed listening to the picture book, “The Night Tree”. This is a tradition that Beaver’s family has on Christmas Eve and instead of checking for presents as soon as they get up on Christmas morning, they rush to the window to see which birds are feasting at their ‘Night Tree’! Explain the tradition to your family and talk about whether it’s a tradition you’d like to start.

They say you should think about others at this time of year so we turned our attention to the birds at the farm. We worked hard making edible decorations to hang on our tree friends. What birds do you think will visit your tree to nibble some of the treats you left?

What can we say about the people who give so generously to make sure we can pull off great things at nature school. Raccoon is in his third year with CNS and continues to snap, carry, console and advise to make us even better. We all thanked Raccoon by presenting him with a plaque with all of our names burned into it!

Daisy now has more outdoor gear than Coyote, so she just better stay on with us. You won’t find a better teacher anywhere guaranteed! Beaver, is BACK (2.0) with all the energy and enthusiasm we remember plus creating the magic activities that are a favourite part of our day. You just never know what she'll pull out of her backpack! When you’re in a pinch (which happens) you need folks who will pull on boots, roll up sleeves and say YES to stand in. Thank you Hawk for being this ‘go to’ person for us.

Kids, give your parents a HUGE hug of gratitude, right NOW, for making sure you’re all set to be comfortable outdoors in all weather. This is the key to your happiness and ours too:))

Thank you for believing & acting on the belief, that NATURE is the best teacher.
