Exploring at the Farm

Updated: Sep 23

Today was an wonderful first day of Acorns & Oaks! Meeting new friends and visiting with 'old' friends and a morning exploring at Stoneridge Farm.

Coyote had a special nature surprise to share with us! Can you remember what she shared? There was something striped and there was something green. Monarch butterflies are flying around the milkweed and the goldenrod and other flowers but before it can fly you might find it as a caterpillar or 'sleeping' in its chrysalis (sleeping bag).

We pretended to fly like butterflies, walk like deer in a line and howl like a coyote. What animal did your child like pretending to be?

Along the trail we saw many things. We were looking for paper oak leaves and also looking for colours. What does your child remember seeing? What colour was it? We also saw and heard bugs like grasshoppers.

At Pine Haven, we had snack and story time. What kind of tree did your child point to? Cherry, Cedar, Maple, Willow or Pine to name a few from our storybook called "Sometimes I feel like an Oak".

There are so many things to do while at Pine Haven. See the horses, crawl, swing in the hammock, look for snails, and other creepy crawlies. What did your child avoid? What did they like?

Keep watching for signs of caterpillars when you go for a walk this week. Remember if you have a Walnut tree you might find a hairy Hickory Tussock Moth caterpillar. Just look at its black and white body in a safe way as the little tiny hairs might give you a rash!

Special thanks to Chickadee and Ladybug for their help today! Happy Trails till next week!
